Back to Basics

Well, I had kind of hoped to have a completed cross stitch to post a picture of, but…no such luck. Definitely next week, though. I’m almost done.
As for my other adventures this week:

-Thursday, dinner with Emily. I gave her a little bottle of help to get her through her weekend, and she gave me tips on asserting myself.

-Friday, my surprise day off, I took myself on a date to the movies to see The Uninvited. Freaky movie, more so when you’re one of only three people in the movie theater.

-Sunday, Mom’s birthday! Went over and celebrated with her and Dad. Was nearly attacked by a chicken on the way, when I stopped to drop some books off at a friend’s house (yes, that's the chicken, top left). And I launched Project June, where you can follow the main character from my book on Twitter. You can also catch her diary entries every Tuesday right here on Serendipitous Times.

-Monday, got pulled from my usual Monday location to work another one. Of course, this was the day everyone in town decided to get their bloodwork done. I stuck thirty people by lunchtime, but surprisingly was able to be moderately productive when I got home.

This week, I’ve also had to come up with a plan to get more writing done. See, when I started writing Surviving Serendipity, it was in notebooks. Then, my husband got me a laptop. Then I got on MySpace. And Facebook. And now, finally, Twitter. So, I get home, I’ve got emails from Twitter and Facebook, Tweetdeck is chirping at me every thirty seconds…I can’t get anything done. So, I’m going back to the beginning. From now on, when I want to write, the computer goes OFF. And if I need a thinking moment, I can have a thinking moment, not a “well, let me see if anyone posted something interesting on Twitter,” moment. That’s the plan, anyway…let’s see how well it works.

Beware the sound of crying children, watch out for the barmaids, and whatever you do, don't let the Pegasus spit on you.

That is exactly why I LOVE to write on the Neo by Alphasmart!

NO connectivity, which is an essential to my creative productivity.

I've also had to limit myself - can only log into goodreads 3 times a day, check my z-score once a week, etc...

By the way, I can't figure out the relevance of the rooster...? =)

I was nearly attacked by a chicken. okay, I nearly stepped on it. My friend feeds her chickens from her back deck, and this one was waiting at the door for a handout. It scared me. I took a picture.

Chickens and other fowl can be very foul indeed. My brother was nearly killed (okay, mild exaggeration) by a mother goose when he was little. Mother goose was even in a petting zoo! Sheesh, you'd think they'd have security....

Anyway... I need the internet for when I get stuck. Usually I get blocked when I have to think of a name, or a ritual, or something related to my Celtic wolves. I then open a Firefox window and go to Google or my favorite name database. And then, ta-dah! The writing continues. Unless I get sidetracked thinking about the moon phases, or looking at pictures of Europe, or...
Well, maybe it isn't all that efficient, but it works for me! lol
